Time for a change

Updated: Jun 13, 2021

What I was doing wasn't working, and I've decided to adjust.

I built this business in 2019. It's 2021, and honestly, I feel like I'm barely any further along then when I started. Sure, I've had clients, successes, failures, and lessons learned, but I think I just expected growth to happen without putting in any real effort.

I am ready for change. I'm ready to make this the biggest name in the coaching industry. Here's how.

Recognize.

You want to create a real change? The first step is recognizing where you are. You need to reflect, be honest, and get real with yourself. The moment you stop bullshitting yourself, you can begin to actually make a change.

This is what it looks like for me: Where am I? I am 29 going on 30. I expected this coaching business to succeed with minimal effort. I haven't put in the work. I've gained skills and knowledge but now it's time to make use of those skills and that knowledge. I've been lazy. I've been lying to myself. I've been using learning as an excuse for not doing the things that will push my business forward.

What can you recognize about yourself? And don't forget to be real AF with yourself.

Visualize.

Next, you've gotta see where you're trying to go. Get specific. Write it down. The key here is to get clear on what and where. For now, don't worry about the how.

For me: I am going to be a leading force in the self-development industry. I am outworking most of my peers. I will fail my way to success. I am podcasting, creating video content, writing, speaking, and coaching every single day. I am connecting with other powerful speakers/coaches and orchestrating events and programs. I am helping others create change that lasts. I'm cutting through the bullshit and helping people find truth. I'm constantly learning, growing, and evolving. I am building this business piece by piece.

That was just off the top of my head. Obviously, I could spend a lot more time with it and get nitty gritty with the details but for an example, you get the idea.

The key here is to see what you want like you're actually doing it. I want you to imagine how you look while you're doing the things you want to do, imagine how you feel, and imagine how you're affecting the world around you.

Actualize.

Once you're real about where you are and where you're going then you will need to take the steps that will get you from point a to point b. If you put the work in with recognizing and visualizing then this should be a lot easier. The first two steps were like mapping out a road trip. Now it's time to navigate the best route to getting where you want.

There are multiple paths to a single destination. Sometimes you will start heading down a road that leads to a dead end. That's okay. Adjust course and you will eventually reach your destination. You are going to run into obstacles and roadblocks. This is where a mentor or a coach comes in handy.

Having someone who has been there before you is a great tool to successfully getting to where you are trying to go. Find someone who has done or is currently doing the thing that you are trying to do. Learn from them. Learn from their successes, and more importantly, learn from their failures.

You can even have a mentor who isn't physically available for mentorship. Read that persons autobiography and books. Model their behaviors and actions. Don't aim to become them. You are still you. And you're good enough. But study them and find ways to do what they do in your own way.

For example, I have started recording my podcast. I have about 5 podcasts that I listen to religiously. I am going to take the technical aspects of what I like from each podcast and incorporate it into the one I'm recording. It's still going to be my podcast and I'm still going to be me but I'm modeling my podcast after those who have gone before me and are successful.

I hope this post helped you if you are trying to make a change in your life. If you have any questions, disagree with something I said, or would like to know more please reach out to me at coachstanish@outlook.com
